Rhoda Kadalie

Executive Director

rhoda01-copy.jpg Prior to joining Impumelelo, from 1995-1998, Ms Kadalie was a Human Rights Commissioner responsible for the Western Cape and Northern Cape; an academic and founder of the Gender Equity Unit at the University of the Western Cape. Ms Kadalie has travelled extensively internationally, presenting lectures and papers on human rights and gender politics in South Africa.

In 1999 she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Liberal Arts from the University of Uppsala, Sweden; in 2007 she recieved an Honorary Doctorate of Literature from her alma mater the University of the Western Cape. She is a columnist for Business Day, Die Burger, and Beeld.

Christopher Mingo

Evaluations Manager                 

chris better copy.jpgChris Mingo is a qualified Social Worker and has an M.A in Research Psychology (UWC). Prior to joining Impumelelo, in June 2001, he was a Land Reform and Poverty Relief Researcher at Budget Information Services at IDASA. In this capacity he investigated Land Reform and the Targeted Poverty Relief Programmes of Government. As Evaluations Manager for Impumelelo he oversees the evaluations process and the workshop programme. In 2002, he spent a month at Harvard researching South Africa's local government constitutional framework.

Yasmina Shabodien

Senior Administrator

yasmina new copy.jpg As Senior Administrator, Yasmina is responsible for the entire administration of Impumelelo, in addition to managing the finances. She has extensive experience in the NGO sector, having worked for organisations such as Kagiso Trust and the National Programme for Primary Health Care. Yasmina has spent a month at Harvard in 2005 assisting with the construction of the Global Innovations Network portal and website. In 2003 she represented Impumelelo at the World Economic Forum in Porte Alegre in Brazil; in 2008 she represented Impumelelo at the Honoring Nations Award Ceremony in Phoenix, Arizona.

Mark Lotter

Fundraiser and Marketing Manager

mark1.jpgMark Lotter started as Impumelelo Fundraiser and Marketing Manager in July 2006. He started with the organisation in 2002 when he completed a 6-month internship as assistant to the Information Officer. Previously he worked as Account Executive for Corporate Image, a corporate communications consultancy with clients such as Sun International, I&J, Pick n Pay, and SAB Ltd. He completed his BA in Communication and Political Science at the University of Canberra in Australia, including a Professional Designation in International Trade and Commerce from UCLA. In October 2006 he completed ‘Principles and Techniques of Fundraising’ at Indiana University’s Fundraising School. He represented Impumelelo at the Ash Institute's Innovation Conference at Harvard in 2008.

Candice Jansen

Media Liaison Officer

Candice copy.jpgImpumelelo’s resident photographer, Candice started as an intern in 2007, responsible for the annual Impumelelo magazine. In 2006 she graduated from Rhodes University majoring in Politics, History and Journalism and Media Studies, specialising in Photojournalism. She is responsible for Impumelelo's media, communications, and advocacy programme. She has a history of community development with organisations like Habitat for Humanity and Amnesty International. She represented Impumelo at the Honoring Nations Award Ceremony in 2008 in Phoenix Arizona.

Pierre Roux

Resident Researcher

pierre copy.jpgPierre Roux is Impumelelo's resident Researcher and Project Evaluator. He has an LLB (US), Masters in Marine Law (UCT) and B.Phil in Sustainable Development Planning, Cum Laude (US). He has contributed enormously to the evaluations and research database of Impumelelo.
