THE AWARDS CYCLE

The programme follows an annual cycle consisting of four main phases:

Phase 1: Initial Screening

Applications are invited from projects throughout the country. All applicants are screened and assessed against the Award criteria, leading to the selection of the top 100 projects.

Phase 2: Evaluation

Professional teams are convened to assess the 100 projects by means of site visits, interviews and relevant data gathering. A report is generated on each project and presented to the selection panel. Exhibit materials are prepared by each project in anticipation of phase 3.

Phase 3: Final Adjudications

Based on the recommendations of the evaluators, 40 projects are short-listed to present to the National Selection Panel of Judges. The Judges receive two files of the evaluated projects a month before the event to prepare themselves for the adjudications process. The adjudications take place over two days during which each project defends their innovation to the panel. At the end of this process the panel selects the top 20-30 winners for an award.

Phase 4: Award Ceremony

The award winners are announced at an awards ceremony in the categories of Platinum, Gold, and Silver. A Star Certificate is awarded to those who are praise-worthy but who have the potential to become prize-worthy.
