Group of Hope
The Group of Hope project was originally established in June 2002 in Brandvlei Maxiumum Security Prison in Worcester, a rural town outside Cape Town. It was started by inmates and the social worker within the prison. Originally, the members of the group taught other inmates and the local community about HIV/AIDS and crime prevention. The aim was to give information and skills to inmates so that they could start a new life outside prison.
Mawa Block 08 Peoples Housing Process
This project was started in November 2005 and funded by the Provincial Department of Local Government and Housing. The project was given R2 886 500 for the construction of 115 houses in the Tzaneen area.
Positive Beadwork Project
In June 2002 the Positive Beadwork Project (PBP) was created by the Kidzpositive Family Fund (NPO number 017-295) it is a group at Groote Schuur Hospital trying to relieve some of the burden placed on women caring for HIV+ children.
Kleinriver Environmental and Employment Project (KEEP)
KEEP began in 2004 as landowners along the Klein River approached the Department of Agriculture and decided to take the management of cleaning the area themselves.
SAVE Sexual Abuse Victim Empowerment
SAVE was started in the Western Cape in 1990 in response to the Department of Justice and the SA Police Service’s requests that justice for complainants with intellectual disabilities who have been sexually abused should be pursued.
Mnweni-Amazizi Project
The Mnweni-Businsatha Gap (MBG) is a slice of six mountain areas sandwiched between two national parks along the Drakensberg Mountains on the border of Lesotho and KZN. An integral and important section of the Drakensberg, with a significant high water catchment area for some of South Africa’s major rivers.
Make it Better (MIB) Youth Development Programmes
Khulisa Crime Prevention Initiative sees youth as the solution as well and began the Make It Better (MIB) programme in order to empower youth to take the problem into their own hands.
Ithubalethu “Our Chance” Point Community Project
In 2003, to educate sex workers, Ukuba Nesibindi, Lifeline Durban Outreach Program established Ithbalethu in eThekwini Municipality to educate and train sex workers in the vulnerable age group of 9-24 in alternative employment.
Yabonga Children’s Project
Yabonga (est.1988), a Cape Town-based NPO has Educare Centres in Thandabantu, Sunrise, Ekanana, Khulanthi, Crossroads, Nyanga, Houtbay and Malindi to address nutrition, health and the education of pre-school children in township communities.
eThembeni ARV Project
The eThembeni ARV project (est. 2004) is one of 55 ARV sites that were established to meet government’s implementation of its ARV programme. It is situated 15 kilometres from Creighton village at the St Apollinaris hospital and services the Ingwe and KwaSani municipalities in rural Kwa-Zulu Natal.
