What We Do

The Impumelelo Social Innovations Centre was established as an awards programme  in 1999 to identify, reward, and promote excellence in the South African public sector.

Since 2004 Impumelelo added two additional programmes – best practice case study research, and national sector-based training workshops. Impumelelo publishes sector-based case studies, which are used as  resource manuals at the capacity building workshops.

At these workshops the award-winners train government and civil society organisations to implement social development projects  more effectively.

Impumelelo’s media department provides compelling and credible portraits of the many ways in which government and civil society contributes to public problem-solving.
