Capacity Development & Best Practice Training Workshops

Building Capacity for Service Delivery

Impumelelo's national best practice workshops are demand-driven and target public and private sector managers, policy makers, elected officials and civic leaders.

The goal is to replicate successful public service innovations in other contexts by using award-winners to train others.

Workshops have already been conducted in the following sectors: Rural Development, two on HIV/AIDS, two on the Environment (which includes Sanitation & Waste Management, and Water), two on Skills Development & Employment, Housing, and Public Works.

Increasingly Impumelelo is taking these best practice workshops into provinces and specific local government departments. For example, award-winners in Housing, Sanitation, Waste Management and Agriculture were taken to Kimberley, Northern Cape in 2010.

Our workshops:

1. Create communities of best practice - we bring together urban and rural projects in particular sectors across the country's provinces.

2. Foster a de-politicised space, free from ideology, that facilitates discussion and debate about the implementation methodologies for successful project management.

3. Create platforms that facilitates peer to peer learning - we bring together project managers, in particular sectors, who are the backbone of innovative service delivery at the coalface of development.

4. Can be customised for any province, sector, government department or organisation.
