Environment Vol. I
This case study focuses on the environmental sector with a view to providing government with case studies for widespread replication. The case studies are prefaced with a review of international and South African environmental policy.
The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, and the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg 10 years later, have shifted environmentalism from a 'green', fringe-group movement to a mainstream, development-based activity in developing countries such as South Africa where poverty alleviation remains a central priority for local communties and government. 13 Projects are featured in this case study.
A second Environment case study volume was published in 2008, exploring 18 exceptional environmental best practices.
