Public Works
This case study focuses on public works projects that have a core function - in this instance to maintain roads - but incorporate other elements such as job creation and training. After a general introduction to government's attempts at job creation since 1994, it supplies some historic background to poverty and unemployment over the last 50 years.
This case study draws on the Impumelelo database and is devoted to a detailed look at two government road maintenance projects, with considerable attention given to their pros and cons. In an attempt to provide additional background, the experiences of four further projects are discussed.
