Hantam Community Education Trust

42 children, aged between 3 and 6 years, from 22 farms are transported to educare centres 3 days a week. Educare teachers are trained and regular home visits and workshops are conducted with the teachers. 177 children from Grades 1 to 9 are transported to school daily.

42 children, aged between 3 and 6 years, from 22 farms are transported to educare centres 3 days a week. Educare teachers are trained and regular home visits and workshops are conducted with the teachers. 177 children from Grades 1 to 9 are transported to school daily. The school library is equipped with overhead projectors, photocopy machines, 6000 books and 9 computers. Sport, cultural activities, human rights training and health education form part of the school activities. Adults and youths from the local communities are offered training in woodwork, metalwork, sewing, crafts, leatherwork, cooking and rug making. Participants are transported to the skills training centre where they produce articles for their homes and for sale. Business skills training is provided to those wanting to start their own businesses. The trust also undertakes regular teacher development projects as well as offering literacy classes to the local community. Funding has also been secured for the setting up of a health clinic. A trained pharmacist, a nursing sister and 3 trained health workers will staff the clinic. 2 doctors will be available on stand-by.
