The extent to which the Project has achieved or is on the way to achieving its stated objectves and other socially desirable outcomes.

Poverty Impact

The demonstrable effect of the Project in improving the quality of life of poor communities and individuals.

Sustainability

The viability and sound functioning of the Project within constraints that include funding and staffing.

Replicability

The value of the Project in teaching others new ideas and good practises for poverty-reduction programmes.

Caltizdorp River Erosion Protection Works

During March 2000, the catchment area of Gamka River experienced high intensity rainfall that caused large-scale floods and flood damage. Of particular interest was the erosion that took place near the town of Calitzdorp. More that a 1000 metres along the river was seriously eroded, washing away orchards and vineyards on the riverbank for a width of more than 120 metres from the river including the Irrigation Board's canal.

Chief JM Dlamini Cheshire Home Community-Based Rehabilitation Programme

It was initiated by the Mpumalanga Provincial Government as a way to address the problem of disabled persons in the area being left without care by relatives who are migrant labourers. The Home therefore provides accommodation, nursing care and rehabilitation for these destitute, disabled persons.

The GET SET Project

GET SET! Is an acronym for Girls' Education and Training for Science, Engineering and Technology. In 2001, less than 800 African matric candidates achieved the higher grade passes in maths needed to qualify for university entrance. They remain the most severely disadvantaged group in respect of opportunities to enter higher education.

ATOK Integrated Rural Development Initiative

This initiative, implemented in the ATOK villages within the Fetakgomo Municipal boundaries, seeks to address high levels of unemployment and poverty and the lack of an integrated and co-ordinated effort to combat poverty. Therefore they implemented a coherent socio-economic development strategy that involves various role-players in an effort to meet these objectives.
